denn

because

conjunction particle DEN Common

Also means

then

Usage Note

denn as a conjunction means 'for, because' and, unlike weil, does NOT push the verb to the end. As a flavouring particle in questions it adds curiosity or mild impatience: Was machst du denn? ('What on earth are you doing?').

Examples

"Ich bleibe, denn es regnet."

Natural Translation

I'm staying, because it's raining.

Literal Translation

I stay, because it rains.
