sogar

even

adverb zo-GAAR Common

Usage Note

sogar is the emphatic 'even', used to flag something surprising: Er hat sogar geweint ('he even cried'). It's stronger and more positive in tone than selbst in the same role. Don't confuse it with the English-looking so gar, which isn't a phrase.

Examples

"Sie spricht sogar Japanisch."
