Usage Note
Zeugenvernehmung is the formal questioning of a witness by an investigating authority or court. In criminal proceedings it can take place at the Staatsanwaltschaft, police level, or in court. Witnesses have a general duty to appear and testify but may invoke certain privileges (Zeugnisverweigerungsrecht).
