Usage Note
Rennsteig is chiefly a proper noun: the famous c. 170 km ridge-top hiking and historic border trail across the Thuringian Forest. The annual Rennsteig-Lauf is a well-known race. Despite the Renn- element, the name's origin is disputed (linked to Rain 'border', not 'running').
