Usage Note

Kanüle is the thin hollow needle or tube used for injections, drawing blood, or as an intravenous access point. In everyday German it is often used colloquially to mean the entire syringe needle. A Venenverweilkanüle (intravenous cannula) is inserted for drips (Infusionen).
