Glatteis is neuter (das Glatteis). A smooth sheet of ice on roads and paths caused by freezing rain or refreezing meltwater; extremely hazardous for road traffic and pedestrians. German road authorities issue Glatteiswarnungen (ice warnings) and spread Streusalz (road salt) preventively.
