Usage Note
Böe (also written Bö) refers to a sudden, brief intensification of wind speed above the background wind, typically lasting seconds to a minute. German weather forecasts routinely report Windböen (wind gusts) with their expected maximum speed in km/h. Sturmböen (storm gusts) and Orkanböen (hurricane-force gusts) are stronger categories.
