solvent

solvent

adjective zol-FENT Rare

Origin: from Latin 'solvens' (dissolving, paying)

able to meet financial obligations

Usage Note

solvent describes a debtor who is able to pay all debts as they fall due. In German law the distinction between illiquide (temporarily unable to pay) and überschuldet (over-indebted) also matters; a firm can be solvent in the long run but temporarily illiquide.

Literal Translation

Despite the difficult market-environment remains the company still solvent.
