Denn auch connects a consequence or explanation to what precedes, with a slightly emphatic or confirming force — 'as indeed, that is why': Das war nicht geplant, und scheiterte denn auch prompt. It is more formal and literary than deshalb auch and adds a 'just as one would expect' nuance. Occurs in formal written prose.
