dann

then

adverb DAN Common

Also means

in that case

Usage Note

dann is sequential 'then/next' and, in conditionals, the 'then' that answers a wenn-clause. In first position it triggers verb-second inversion: Dann gehen wir ('Then we'll go'). Don't confuse it with denn ('because' / a softening particle).

Examples

"Erst essen wir, dann gehen wir."

Natural Translation

First we eat, then we go.

Literal Translation

First eat we, then go we.
