Usage Note
Angenommen opens a hypothetical scenario — 'assuming/suppose that'. It is common in both spoken and written German and is more colloquial than gesetzt den Fall: Angenommen, du hast recht – was folgt daraus? ('Suppose you're right – what follows from that?'). Often used in thought experiments and debate.
