Usage Note
Transfusion (more fully Bluttransfusion) is the procedure of transferring blood or blood products from a donor into a patient's bloodstream. Blood group (Blutgruppe) and Rhesus factor compatibility must be checked beforehand. Autologous transfusions (patient's own stored blood) are used in planned surgery.
