Sommersonnenwende falls around 21 June and marks the longest day of the year. In Germany it is celebrated in some regions with bonfires (Johannisfeuer) on Johanni (24 June). It is distinct from Sonnenaufgang (sunrise) and used in calendar and cultural contexts.
