Usage Note
Sachverständige is an expert commissioned by a court or authority to provide a technical opinion (Gutachten) in areas beyond the court's own competence — medicine, engineering, finance etc. As gerichtlich bestellte Sachverständige they are bound to impartiality and can be liable for incorrect opinions.
