Religion
religion
noun re-li-gi-OHN Less Common
Origin: from Latin 'religio'
Usage Note
Religion is also the school subject 'RE', often shortened to Reli by pupils. The final -ion ending makes a whole class of borrowed nouns feminine (die Religion, die Nation, die Information) — a reliable gender rule.
