Krankenhaus literally joins Kranken ('sick people') with Haus ('house') and is neuter, das Krankenhaus. You say ins Krankenhaus ('to the hospital') and im Krankenhaus ('in hospital'). The plural mutates to Krankenhäuser; the synonym Klinik is also common.
