Usage Note
Gerede (always used without an article in key phrases) carries a dismissive tone: das ist alles nur Gerede — it is all just talk. Ins Gerede kommen means to become the subject of gossip. Singular only; no plural in normal usage.
Examples
"Sie ließen sich nicht vom Gerede der Nachbarn beeinflussen."
Natural Translation
They did not let themselves be influenced by the neighbors' gossip.
Literal Translation
They let themselves not from the gossip of the neighbors influence.
