Gang is wonderfully polysemous: a hallway, a gear in a car (den ersten Gang einlegen), a course in a meal (ein Menü mit drei Gängen), and a person's gait or walk. The idiom etwas in Gang bringen means 'to get something going'. Note a separate borrowed die Gang (feminine) means a criminal gang.
