wortkarg

taciturn, reticent, of few words

adjective VORT-kark Rare

Also means

uncommunicative

Usage Note

Wortkarg literally means 'stingy with words' (karg = sparse, meagre). It describes someone who speaks very little, not out of rudeness but simply by nature. Unlike schweigsam (which can be more solemn), wortkarg is neutral and often seen as matter-of-fact.

Examples

"Der wortkarge Mann antwortete nur mit Ja oder Nein."

Natural Translation

The taciturn man answered only with yes or no.

Literal Translation

The of-few-words man answered only with yes or no.
