Usage Note

quasi is a very common filler in spoken German used to approximate or soften a comparison. It signals 'not exactly, but almost' and is similar to sozusagen but shorter and more colloquial.

"Er ist quasi der Chef der Abteilung, auch wenn er den Titel nicht hat."

Natural Translation

He is practically the head of the department, even though he does not have the title.

Literal Translation

He is as-it-were the boss of the department, even if he the title not has.
