heraus

out

adverb heh-RAUS Less Common

Usage Note

heraus means 'out' with motion toward the speaker (from inside to here), the mirror of hinaus (out and away). It very often attaches as a separable prefix, as in herauskommen ('to come out') or the colloquial Heraus mit der Sprache! ('out with it!', i.e. 'tell me'). Casual speech clips it to raus.

Examples

"Komm bitte sofort heraus!"

Natural Translation

Please come out at once!

Literal Translation

Come please at-once out!
