halt eben

just the way it is; that's just how it is

particle HALT AY-ben Rare

Also means

simply; just

Usage Note

Halt eben combines two modal particles: halt (southern German flavour of fatalistic acceptance) and eben (that's just how things are). Together they convey 'it's simply the case' or 'there's nothing to be done about it'. More colloquial and regional than eben alone.

Examples

"Das ist halt eben so, da kann man nichts machen."

Natural Translation

That's just the way it is, there's nothing you can do.

Literal Translation

That is just simply so, there one can nothing do.
