Usage Note

Sendepause originally described the gap between late-night sign-off and the next morning's broadcast, when screens showed a test card. Today it metaphorically describes any interruption in a regular broadcast or publishing schedule. Politicians who go quiet on an issue are sometimes said to have a Sendepause.
