Secco
secco (dry-plaster wall painting)
noun SEK-oh Rare
Origin: from Italian 'secco' (dry)
Usage Note
Secco is a wall-painting method in which paint is applied to dry plaster, unlike buon fresco. It allows more working time and detail but is less durable; much medieval wall painting is secco or a mixture of both techniques.
Examples
"Viele Fresken wurden nachträglich mit Secco-Partien ergänzt."
Natural Translation
Many frescoes were later supplemented with secco sections.
Literal Translation
Many frescoes were subsequently supplemented with secco-parts.
