Usage Note
Nachruf is an obituary published in a newspaper, magazine, or broadcast as tribute to a recently deceased person. Quality German papers (Süddeutsche Zeitung, FAZ) are known for their literary Nachrufe written by staff journalists. A Nachruf is distinct from a Todesanzeige (death notice placed by the family).
