Usage Note
Lehre spans a vocational apprenticeship, a teaching or doctrine, and a moral lesson — eine Lehre aus etwas ziehen means 'to learn a lesson from something'. It shares a root with lehren (to teach) and lernen (to learn). Don't confuse it with the adjective leer (empty), which sounds similar.
