Klassenkamerad

noun KLAH-sen-ka-me-raht Rare

Origin: from Klasse and Kamerad (comrade)

Also means

schoolmate

Usage Note

Klassenkamerad stresses the comradely bond between members of a school class, warmer in tone than the neutral Mitschüler. It is a weak (n-)noun, so it adds -en in the accusative and dative singular: meinen Klassenkameraden. The female form is Klassenkameradin.
