Usage Note
Kündigung is the formal termination of a contract, working in both directions: an employer dismisses or an employee resigns. From the verb kündigen. A resignation is Eigenkündigung; a layoff is betriebsbedingte Kündigung. The notice period itself is the Kündigungsfrist.
