Usage Note

Grobschmied forges heavy iron and steel objects such as tools, farm implements, and structural parts, using hammer and anvil. Contrasts with Feinschmied (fine metalsmith). In modern German the profession largely merges with Schmied and Metallbauer. Feminine: Grobschmiede (rare).
