Usage Note

Gesprächsanlass (m) is the trigger or pretext that prompts a conversation. In therapy or counselling it may be deliberately created: 'einen Gesprächsanlass schaffen' (to create an opportunity for a conversation). In everyday use it is simply what caused people to start talking.
