Usage Note

Blässhuhn (Fulica atra) is a black water bird with a distinctive white forehead shield (Blässe = pale mark), aggressive towards its own kind. It is a common sight on German lakes and park ponds; in German slang er kämpft wie ein Blässhuhn suggests aggressive, territorial behaviour.
