Amtsinhaber is the person currently holding an office, from Amt (office) and Inhaber (holder). It is masculine and the plural is unchanged; the feminine is Amtsinhaberin. In elections the Amtsinhaber is the incumbent defending the post against challengers (Herausforderer).
